President: John McClelland (2007-present)

John McClelland moved to Texas from North Carolina in 2001 and moved to Denton County in 2005. Mr. McClelland became disillusioned and sought to meet other left leaners like himself, and founded the Addison chapter of national group Drinking Liberally. He has since held the position of precinct chair in three precincts of Denton County, and also formerly chaired the Precinct Chair Development Committee and Candidate Recruitment Committee of the Denton County Democratic Party. He was a lead marcher in the Stand Against The Klan in Austin in 2005 during the No Nonsense in November campaign against the Anti-same sex marriage amendment in Texas. He was a delegation chair of SD9 to the 2006 and SD12 to the 2010 TX Democratic Convention. He has managed the campaign of Amy Manuel for Denton County Commissioner, and even ran unsuccessfully for Dallas City Council himself in 2007. He is a former blogger for the Burnt Orange Report and The Texas Blue. He was the 2008 Democratic nominee for TX State House District 64. He is the founding President of SDDC. He was elected in May 2010 to a four year term as President of the Board of Directors of Denton County Fresh Water Supply District 11-A, becoming the first openly gay elected official in Denton County. John currently works for Evergreen Shipping Agency in ocean transportation logistics and holds a B.A. in Political Science and Geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently resides in Paloma Creek with his partner, Jimmy.
