Officers for 2008
President: John McClelland
John McClelland moved to Texas from North Carolina in 2001 and moved to Denton County in 2005. Mr. McClelland became disillusioned and sought to meet other left leaners like himself, and founded the Addison chapter of national group Drinking Liberally. He has since held the position of precinct chair in two precincts of Denton County, and also formerly chaired the Precinct Chair Development Committee of the Denton County Democratic Party. Mr. McClelland has been an active member of his community since coming to Texas. He was a lead marcher in the Stand Against The Klan in Austin in 2005 during the No Nonsense in November campaign. He was a delegate to the 2006 TX State Convention. He has managed the campaign of Amy Manuel for Denton County Commissioner, and even ran unsuccessfully for Dallas City Council himself in 2007. He is a former blogger for the Burnt Orange Report and currently for The Texas Blue. He is formerly the Vice President of the Board of the Timberglen Branch Library Friends in Dallas. Mr. McClelland currently works for Evergreen Shipping Agency in ocean transportation logistics. He currently resides in Little Elm with his partner of six years, Jimmy. He is now a candidate for Texas State Representative District 64.
Vice President: Dr. Edra Bogle
Dr. Edra Bogle is a lifelong educator and longtime political activist.
Dr. Bogle holds a B.A. in Library Science and Education from Iowa State Teachers’ College (now University of Northern Iowa), a M.S. in Library Service from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Southern California. After a working as an Assistant Librarian at Oregon College of Education, Campus School Librarian at the State Teachers College of Frostburg, Maryland, and as Education Librarian and later Assistant Librarian for Public Services at the University of Southern California, Dr. Bogle joined the faculty of the Department of English at the University of North Texas in Denton in September, 1968. She served as an Assistant Professor of English until August 1972, when she was named an Associate Professor. She retired from full-time teaching in May, 2002. Dr. Bogle also served as Newsletter Editor for the Gay Caucus for the Modern Languages 1977-78. She was a member of the Gay Academic Union. She is a past Denton County Democratic Party Chair and is currently running for State Board of Education District 14.
Secretary: Jillian Baxter
Jillian Baxter moved to Denton County in 2005 and immediately realized there was much work to do bring progressive government to the area. She joined the Flower Mound Democratic Club and started to learn about local politics. In 2006 she became a Precinct Chair for what was then Precinct 325, now Precinct 322. Ms. Baxter was a delegate to both the County and State Conventions in 2006. She is now on the Board of the Flower Mound Democratic club and was on the Steering Committee to form this chapter of the Stonewall Democrats. She does volunteer work for local charities and was on the film selection committee for Out Takes Dallas 2007. She also enjoys block walking her precinct and talking one-on-one with “her Democrats”. Ms. Baxter is a Senior Systems Engineer for Research and Development with Stryker Communications in Flower Mound and is co-owner of Data Doctors Computer Services in Flower Mound. She, her partner of six years Patty, and their cat, have made their home in Highland Village.
Treasurer: Dave Wozniak
Dave Wozniak has lived in the Denton County part of Carrollton since becoming a Texan back in 1990. Originally a Michigan native, Mr. Wozniak has always been active in community causes since the age of nineteen. Since relocating Denton County, he has been active in a number of Dallas-area community organizations over the years. In the mid-1990’s, for example, he had co-hosted the Lambda Weekly radio program on KNON-89.3 FM in Dallas. From 2000-2003, he had served as precinct chair of Precinct 206 in Carrollton prior to entering graduate school at the University of North Texas (UNT).
Mr. Wozniak was also a founding director and early chair of the UNT Student Investment Group—and remains active, since 2003, in not-for-profit investment education as a director of the Dallas chapter of Better Investing. Also, Wozniak serves his city as a spring 2007 graduate of the Carrollton Citizens Police Academy.
Additionally, he and his life partner, Todd Morrow, are members of The Carrollton Project—a group seeking full equality for Carrollton GLBT citizens and its GLBT city employees. His university degrees include a recent UNT master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. Mr. Wozniak currently works as a financial expert and small business consultant, a professional academic writer, and is a member of adjunct business faculty at Richland College in Dallas.
At Large Board Member: Eloy Machuca
Eloy Machuca is native to the central part of Texas. He was born and raised in Temple, Texas. Eloy was very involved with the local gay community, helping with local fund raisers and events in his hometown. He relocated to the metroplex in 1995, living in Irving before purchasing a home in Flower Mound. Having started with Regis Salons in March of 1991, Eloy has relocated several times across the state. He worked in several locations as the salon manager and is currently an Area Supervisor in north Texas. In his current position he is responsible for 14 locations across the state. His responsibilities include recruiting, training, and staff development. Recently, he has worked with the Denton County Democratic office to help with local primary and the county convention. He plans to stay active with the Denton County Democratic Party. Eloy and Arthur Hampton, his partner, are excited about joining the Denton chapter of Stonewall.
At Large Board Member: Rich Abraham
Rich Abraham, originally of Washington State, moved to Fort Hood, Texas in 1990 while serving in the U.S. Army. Rich became a resident of Denton County in 1998. He was the elected chairperson at the primary caucus for precinct 301 and volunteered for the Denton County Democratic Convention, which jump started his excitement for becoming more involved with the Democratic process. Rich is a Project Manager, overseeing the coordination and installation of desktop and notebook systems for a large number of Independent School Districts across the state of Texas. Rich and his partner Bevan live in Lewisville.
